Full Job Description

The successful candidate will support individual students and small groups across classes, subjects, year groups and learning environments as directed. The role includes helping students to understand lesson instructions, key vocabulary, routines and learning expectations, while encouraging independence, confidence and participation in classroom activities.,

  • Support students with speech, language and communication needs to access learning and participate in lessons.
  • Use agreed visual, verbal, written and practical prompts to support communication, choice-making and independence.
  • Deliver or support targeted speech, language and communication interventions under the direction of the SENCO, SEND Manager, teacher or appropriate specialist professional.
  • Prepare and use communication resources, visual supports, vocabulary materials and social communication activities.
  • Support students to develop listening, attention, receptive language, expressive language, social interaction and communication confidence.
  • Share observations with teachers and SEND colleagues to help inform responsive support and remove barriers to learning.
  • Reinforce agreed behaviour expectations, classroom routines and communication strategies to support a safe and purposeful learning environment.
  • Support students with SEND or additional learning needs through agreed strategies and interventions.
  • Work within the agreed scope of the role and not diagnose, assess clinically or alter specialist therapy programmes without direction from the appropriate professional., Working for our Trust means contributing to something larger by supporting the education and life chances of children and young people every day.

    We are looking for someone with a relevant education, childcare, SEND, speech, language and communication, or teaching assistant qualification at the required minimum level. You will have training or demonstrable knowledge relevant to supporting students with speech, language and communication needs in an educational setting, and a willingness to undertake further training linked to speech, language and communication support, SEND and safeguarding.
  • You will be able to communicate clearly and professionally with students, teachers, SEND colleagues, parents and carers, and external partners where appropriate. You will be organised, collaborative and able to record observations accurately, manage confidentiality appropriately and build positive relationships that support inclusive participation and strong outcomes for students.
