Job Description
Sales Person - Huws Gray (Highgate) - Connect with Customers - Be the Go-To Expert. Make Every Sale Count. Be Part of Something Bigger at Huws Gray. Whether you're in the trade or simply love a good home improvement project, chances are you've heard of us. We're the Huws Gray Group - home to a family of trusted brands including Huws Gray, Huws Gray Plant & Tool Hire, Civils & Lintels, The Timber Group, PDM, NDI, and Anglia Tool Centre. Across the UK, our branches support local communities with everything they need for building, improving, and creating - we couldn't do it without our people and that's where you come in!
We're looking for a Sales Person with detailed knowledge of building materials to join the team at our Highgate branch. In this role, you'll be a key part of our branch's success by building strong relationships with customers and suppliers, supporting your teammates, and helping to grow sales and profitability.
What you'll be doing:
- Building connections - chatting with customers in person or over the phone, using your experience in the industry to give helpful, confident advice.
- Creating tailored solutions - putting together quotes, following up on enquiries, and turning leads into real opportunities, using your understanding of what materials work best for different jobs.
- Keeping things running smoothly - handling day-to-day admin without any fuss and keeping everything on track.
- Offering guidance - helping customers choose the right products for their projects by drawing on your up-to-date knowledge.
- Enhancing the shopping experience - keeping displays tidy, well stocked, and easy for customers to browse so they can quickly find the materials they need.
- Collaborating - working closely with the team across the branch, including the yard and counter, using your product knowledge to help customers get the right materials first time.
We're happy to explore flexible working options. Feel free to chat with us about it during the interview. While we might not be able to meet every request, we'll always listen with an open mind - and there's no judgment in asking.
What you'll bring:
- Experience in a builders' merchant or a sales-focused role, or a confident sales professional with strong knowledge of building materials and a passion for helping customers find the right products.
- Experience leading or supporting a team would be a real advantage.
- Strong time-keeping, natural organisation, and clear communication skills.
- Great listening skills, genuine enthusiasm, and sharp attention to detail.
- Driven, passionate, and customer-focused, with the ability to adapt your approach to each individual and deliver a positive, personalised experience every time.
What's in it for you:
- A strong annual leave allowance, alongside your bank holidays.
- Company bonus scheme, based on performance.
- Contributory pension and life assurance.
- Discounts on high street retailers, supermarkets, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas.
- Colleague discount across our group brands.
- Attraction and travel discounts.
- Training and development programmes to support your growth.
- On-the-job training and opportunities to work towards recognised qualifications, including apprenticeships.
At Huws Gray, we believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce makes us stronger, smarter, and better at serving our customers. We're proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive workplace, whether you're based in one of our branches, on the road, or in one of our offices. If you need any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please let us know.
