Regular supervision and support for continued professional development is offered, as is the opportunity to work on projects within your peer group. Provide specialist clinical skills; assessing & treating patients with complex neurological presentations, using advanced manual techniques & clinical reasoning skills to determine impairments & disabilities, & to formulate a diagnosis/hypothesis & prognosis.Main duties of the job Formulate, plan and deliver a specialised, individual patient centred physiotherapy treatment programme based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, outcome measures, excellent reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. therapeutic manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, vestibular exercises classes etc. Plan timely, effective discharges, collaborating with the wider MDT. Demonstrate an awareness of current developments in neurological physiotherapy integrating, as appropriate, the available evidence into clinical practice, including national guidelines. Take part in the emergency respiratory physiotherapy on call & weekend rotas (emergency & HASU cover). To work as a lone practitioner when on call & often when working the weekend.

  • Accountable for the professional and clinical supervision of physiotherapy undergraduates, undertaking teaching and individual performance review.
  • Deputise for the band 7 physiotherapist in their absence taking responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the team (band 5 & assistant staff) when necessary.
  • Accountable for own professional development.
  • Effective communication with all staff, patients, families & differing services within the community.
  • Evidence based audit and research projects to further own & team's clinical practice relevant to the area.

    The Physiotherapy team is highly regarded within Therapy and Rehabilitation Services at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Band 6 physiotherapist to join Therapy and Rehabilitation services.
  • All Band 6 PT staff work with well-established interdisciplinary teams and rotate through specialised service areas including the Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, Intensive Upper Limb Rehabilitation Service, Neuro out-patients and Neuro in-patients, (including Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Stroke Services - HASU & ASU). Band 6 rotations are for 9 months and offer the opportunity to develop skills in the assessment and management of patients with a wide range of complex and rare neurological disabilities. You must have a substantive postgraduate experience in a physical, neurological setting. Effective communication and a positive approach to the management of complex disability are essential.
