The Opportunity

The Road Safety Assistant will be working within Safer Essex Roads Partnership to deliver Vision Zero, aiming for zero road deaths or serious injuries in Essex by 2040. This role involves working with partner organisations of SERP and the public to communicate road safety messages. It will include delivering the road safety programme for education in primary schools.

The post holder will be required to work across the whole county but will be assigned to schools close to their home location to minimize travel. They will report to the Road Safety Team Leader, who will allocate work, provide training, and support development. The role requires effective communication with both adults and children, and the ability to work independently while liaising directly with schools.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team delivering road safety interventions, raising awareness, and conducting education and behavioural change sessions to children and adults in primary school settings.


• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with partner organisations, institutions, and schools.


• Record data from visits and evaluate sessions delivered.


• Manage health and safety for the activities undertaken.


• Perform other ad hoc duties as required by the role.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience or knowledge of Road Safety or Highways.


• Experience of Health and Safety practices.


• Understanding of behavioural change techniques.


• Confidence in delivering educational interventions to children.
