Full Job Description
As a Road Safety Assistant, you will work in the Road Safety and Sustainable Travel team to deliver road safety education into schools. Your work helps to reduce the number of young people injured on our roads, encouraging walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to and from school. You will make a difference to children and their families by encouraging physical activity which will improve road safety and air quality outside schools as well as making lifestyles more healthy for children and their families. What you will be doing
- It will be your responsibility to deliver road safety interventions to children aged 0-18, this involves presenting in school assemblies, classrooms and online.
- Supporting the team, you will book schools for interventions, ensuring that they have sufficient resources for campaigns and projects including distributing resources to schools across South Gloucestershire.
- Acting as a bridge between schools and other community groups and the Lead Road Safety Officer, you will assist them to engage with road safety.
- As required, you will attend public road safety events to promote road safety and sustainable travel messages as well as regional and national conferences and events.
We require you to hold a GCES/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification including maths and English at grade C/4 or above. - You must have experience of working in a similar service area or delivering training to school pupils and others in the community.
- You will be able to work alone and within a team to plan, organise and control work activities.
- It is essential that you have good communication skills, as you will be dealing with a wide range of people including children, young people and the public.
- Although not essential, you may have an understanding and knowledge of active travel behaviour change strategies and interventions aimed at encouraging people to shift from car use to more sustainable modes of transport.
As this is a part time role, your salary will be prorated to hours worked. - This role is term time only, working 38 weeks per year.
- Your working pattern will be a Thursday and Friday with a degree of flexibility initially to complete training.
- Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
- You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full and valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
