Full Job Description
We are seeking a Risk & Compliance Analyst to join the Risk, Compliance & Assurance team within the Assurance Directorate., The Risk & Compliance Analyst combines hands-on ownership of the University's risk management system with broader analytical and advisory responsibilities across risk, compliance and assurance. The role holder will act as the functional lead for the University's risk system, developing an understanding of its configuration, data structures and reporting capabilities. They will ensure the system is effectively maintained, continuously improved, and used consistently across the institution. Alongside this, the role will deliver high-quality analysis, reporting and insight to support effective governance and decision-making. Working closely with colleagues across the Assurance Directorate, the Data Office and wider professional services, the postholder will strengthen institutional oversight through robust data governance, integrated reporting, and continuous improvement of risk and assurance processes. The role sits within the RCA team and supports the Head of Risk, Compliance & Assurance (RCA) to deliver across all areas of responsibility.
- Degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience of working in risk management, compliance, internal audit or a related area in an analytical role.
- Experience working with enterprise risk management (ERM) or audit management and action tracking software
- Demonstrable experience of producing insight-driven reports for senior stakeholders or governance committees. Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced data analysis capability, including use of Excel and/or other analytical tools to manipulate, interrogate and interpret complex datasets.
- Experience developing dashboards and management information (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
- Understanding of risk management principles and assurance frameworks.
- Confidence working with software systems, including developing an understanding of system configuration, data structures and reporting tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex qualitative and quantitative information
- Ability to translate business requirements into system and reporting solutions, and to work pragmatically within technical and data constraints
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical or system-related concepts clearly to non-specialists
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities., High attention to detail and commitment to data quality and integrity.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility and trust.
- Proactive and solutions-focused approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Confidence to constructively challenge and influence risk reporting quality, consistency and maturity.
- Curious and systems-minded, with a willingness to develop deep expertise in tools, data and processes. Desirable Criteria
- Professional qualification in risk, audit, compliance, or governance (e.g., IRM, IIA, ICA).
- Experience as functional lead and system administrator of enterprise risk management (ERM) or audit management and action tracking software
- Experience in the Higher Education sector.
- Experience working with Business Intelligence or data warehousing teams.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to UK Higher Education.
