Full Job Description

The Resus Lead Nurse will oversee the resuscitation area within the Emergency Department, leading highly specialized care for critically ill patients. They provide clinical leadership, expert nursing advice, and supervision to staff during high-acuity events, ensuring adherence to emergency protocols and high-quality patient outcomes,

  • The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining the provision of a 5 start evidence-based Resuscitation service in the Emergency Department of Whiston Hospital.
  • The role will be approximately 50% clinical 'hands on' and 50% teaching/training and both elements will also incorporate aspects of stock review, equipment functionality and overall administrative management of the Resus area.
  • 50% = indicative only and the post-holder is encouraged to concentrate on the most important aspects of the role as decided by themselves.
  • The Emergency Department located in a purpose-built department within Whiston Hospital. The ED has approximately 98,000 attendances per year. There is a dedicated Paediatric ED, Resuscitation Room and Emergency Assessment Unit all co-located and supported by an Observation ward and Ambulatory Emergency Care unit. The service works closely with and is supported by the Alcohol and Psychiatric Liaison services, mobility assessment team and a dedicated social services team all co-located within the ED. The post-holder will be expected to work as part of a dedicated Senior ED team supporting a minor injury / illness work stream largely independent of medical intervention and within an expanding and evolving range of presentations.
