Respiratory Care Practitioner III - Maryview Medical Center Job Title: Respiratory Care Practitioner III Job Summary The Respiratory Care Practitioner III is responsible for providing respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This includes all respiratory care procedures such as oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and both patient and staff education. The practitioner monitors patient response to therapies and makes recommendations to modify treatments as needed. Sign-On Bonus
- Experienced respiratory therapists are eligible for a $20,000.00 sign-on bonus. Essential Functions
- Provide clinical instruction and in-service training to department staff, other healthcare team members, and students.
- Support clinical learning through mentorship, clinical rounds, and practice evaluation; provide leadership for advancement of professional respiratory practice in intensive care, general care, and outpatient services.
- Offer feedback for coaching and performance evaluations of team members.
- Identify quality improvement initiatives, design programs with measurable outcomes, and lead clinical research initiatives ensuring education, training, and implementation of study designs.
- Collect data and maintain accurate records, evaluate product performance as needed.
- Participate actively in facility councils and committees.
- Serve as the shift "Charge Therapist," ensuring adequate respiratory staff coverage and managing assignments and staffing needs.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, transtracheal catheter insertion, tracheotomy, and invasive monitoring.
- Perform CPR, including closed-chest compressions and airway management per AHA ACLS protocol.
- Conduct therapeutic procedures to maintain patient airway, including use of appropriate airways, airway humidification, aspiration of secretions, ETT cuff pressure maintenance, and documentation.
- Select, assemble, monitor, and evaluate mechanical ventilators for proper operation; address malfunctions and determine suitability for patient condition.
- Perform pulmonary function tests (PFT) as required.
- Preceptor new team members and/or students.
- Assess patient physical status via inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, behavior, and review existing data.
- Execute treatments per physician orders, explain therapy, and modify procedures based on patient response.
- Recommend appropriate therapy to physician, including IPPB, aerosol therapy, postural drainage, nebulizer, incentive spirometry, metered-dose inhalers, spacers, etc.
- Set up and maintain modes of oxygen therapy to maintain adequate PaO2 levels.
- Administer intermittent positive pressure breathing or aerosol therapy, documenting vital signs and clinical response.
- Perform postural drainage, vibration, percussion for bronchial secretions, verify orders and imaging, and monitor therapy response.
- Educate patients and families on incentive spirometry, inhaler use, postural drainage, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, and home aerosol therapy.
- Collect sputum for culture and sensitivity; perform airway clearance via coaching or suctioning.
- Evaluate normal and abnormal blood and urine labs.
- Perform arterial punctures and analysis; interpret arterial blood gases (ABG); conduct arterial line placement and maintenance.
- Perform EKGs; understand monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.
- Maintain all respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
- Respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitations and participate as indicated. Education
- Bachelor's Degree related to Respiratory Therapy, Health Care, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred).
- Master's Degree related to Health Care, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred). Required Licensing & Certifications
- Current Respiratory Care License in the state of employment (required).
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential (required).
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred).
- BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
- ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross (required).
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AWHONN (preferred).
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred).
- Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred).
- ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) - NBRC (preferred). Experience
- Two years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or five years as a Certified Respiratory Therapist, with demonstrated clinical competency in at least two of the following environments: Nursery/NICU, PICU, ICU/CCU, ED, and general care areas (required). Skills & Abilities
