What You'll Do

  • Supporting children and young people with their daily routines, encouraging independence and positive life skills.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with children and young people to promote their wellbeing and development.
  • Assisting with educational, recreational and social activities both within the home and in the local community.
  • Providing practical and emotional support tailored to each young person's individual needs.
  • Helping to create a safe, caring and nurturing home environment.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and supporting young people to achieve their personal goals.
    Observing, monitoring and recording children's progress, well-being and daily activities.
  • Working alongside experienced colleagues and other professionals to support care plans and outcomes.
  • Following safeguarding, health and safety, and company policies to ensure the welfare of all children and young people.
  • Attending team meetings, supervision sessions and apprenticeship training to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours within residential childcare.


Training Outcome

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be opportunities to progress into a permanent Residential Support Worker or Children's Residential Care Worker position. With further experience and training, individuals can advance to roles such as Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader, Deputy Home Manager, or Registered Children's Home Manager.

The apprenticeship also provides a strong foundation for further qualifications in residential childcare, leadership and management, supporting long-term career development within the children's care sector.

Working Arrangements

Working Week: The apprentice will work on a rota basis, including a combination of early shifts, late shifts, weekends and bank holidays to meet the needs of the children and young people in the home.
