Full Job Description

We are offering a unique opportunity to live and work on campus supporting students in our university accommodation
As a Staff Residential Adviser, you will be part of a team providing pastoral support and guidance to students living in halls of residence. Residential Wellbeing is the support network for students in university accommodation and sits within the wider Student Wellbeing Team. Together, we support around 2500 students living across our campuses in Brighton.
This is a unique role for an existing member of university staff. Alongside your full-time role, you'll live in one of the halls of residence and join a rota with five other Residential Advisers to provide overnight on-call cover from 7.30pm to 7.30am, including weekends and bank holidays and closure periods.
Key aspects of the role include:
o Providing a first-line response to student welfare concerns and critical incidents
o Supporting students who are homesick or struggling to settle into university life
o Signposting students to appropriate university support services
o Helping resolve difficulties students may experience in their accommodation
o Working with the Residential Wellbeing Team to build a sense of community and belonging in halls
o
We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly with students and is committed to supporting them during their university experience. As the role involves out-of-hours work and occasionally responding to challenging situations, you will need to remain calm, think clearly, and make sound decisions when needed.

You should be adaptable, approachable, and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. You must also be willing to live on campus and take part in the overnight on-call rota, including some weekends and bank holidays.

In return, you will be provided with free staff accommodation in halls of residence and an annual stipend (currently £2743 per year)
