Research Transparency Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Transparency Manager to help shape and deliver Cambridge's approach to research transparency across our academic journals and books programmes. About the role You will lead Cambridge's engagement with research transparency policies and practices across books, journals and Elements, helping to strengthen the quality and trustworthiness of our academic publications. You will develop and implement strategic approaches, policies and initiatives, build internal capability, and develop relationships with external partners and collaborations. You will translate evolving funder, community and industry expectations into practical, subject-appropriate approaches. You will also advise on transparent declarations relating to new technologies in research and academic publishing, including machine learning and generative AI. Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:

• Developing and implementing research transparency policies and strategic approaches across books, journals and Elements.
• Engaging editors, editorial boards, proprietors, authors and internal colleagues to encourage appropriate transparent and reproducible research practices.
• Providing expert support for initiatives and workflows including Data Availability Statements, Registered Reports and Open Practice Badges.
• Building internal understanding through clear guidance, resources, updates and training, enabling colleagues to communicate confidently with external stakeholders.
• Representing Cambridge in relevant external events, communities and collaborations, and translating emerging expectations and best practice into internal recommendations.
• You will thrive when working across different research communities and balancing strategic priorities with practical implementation across multiple teams.
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Are you passionate about supporting open research behaviours and improving the transparency, quality and trustworthiness of published research?,
• Experience developing and implementing policies, guidance or initiatives in open research or academic publishing.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong project management and organisational skills, including prioritising and delivering across multiple workstreams.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills, including translating complex subjects for different stakeholder communities.
• Knowledge of research transparency and reproducibility, including key policies, practices and emerging developments.
• Understanding of academic research and the scholarly communications landscape, demonstrated through relevant professional knowledge or experience.
