Full Job Description
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician to join our service, providing technical support in the Protein Science group based at Granta Park.The responsibilities of this role would include protein expression (Insect) and preparation of samples for Mass Spectrometry. The AstraZeneca Protein Science group, part of Discovery Sciences function, is a research unit key to the functioning of Oncology R&D, through recombinant protein expression, purification, and QC. The successful candidate will be task managed on a day-to-day basis within the client environment. This role is lab-based focusing on the delivery of protein science technical support in accordance with Health and Safety and GLS requirements. The successful candidate will significantly contribute to the practical delivery of projects with hands-on experience of protein expression and/or Mass Spectrometry being advantageous. Additional knowledge and experience in experimental set ups and sterile technique would also be advantageous.,
- Carry out all scientific support activities in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines and local agreements
- Act as an effective member of the Protein Science team, supporting project teams to meet delivery milestones
- Play a key role in supporting the Protein Reagent team, including: + Recombinant protein expression in insect cell systems + Protein sample preparation for mass spectrometry
- Execute experimental procedures according to study plans
- Contribute to the interpretation of experimental data and the planning of follow-on experiments
- Provide cover and support for E. coli technician tasks, including: + Small-scale expression testing + Large-scale expression grows
- Maintain awareness of current scientific developments through literature review and research tools
- Learn, develop, and apply new techniques, demonstrating self-awareness around training needs
- Accurately record results and methodologies in line with guidelines
- Communicate results clearly to team members, project leads, and stakeholders
Degree educated in Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline - At least 1 year of laboratory experience in a relevant scientific environment
- Practical experience and/or strong theoretical understanding of: + Recombinant protein expression in insect cells + Sterile cell culture techniques + Protein quality control, particularly sample preparation for mass spectrometry
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail Additional Skills:
- Confident use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and scientific databases
- Experience presenting data using standard reporting tools and spreadsheets
- Ability to adapt to emerging best practices and scientific innovations
- Experience supporting project managers and delivering to agreed timelines
