Summary
City St George's, University of London is the University of business, practice and the professions and brings together the expertise and excellence of City, University of London and St George's, University of London into one institution. The combined university is now one of the largest higher education destinations for London students, combining a breadth of disciplines across health, business, policy, law, creativity, communications, science and technology. Our students are at the heart of everything that we do, and we are committed to supporting them to pursue their career and personal ambitions.
Our research is engaged, at the frontier of practice and has a positive impact on the world around us.
DIVERSE-CDT is the UK's only Centre for Doctoral Training in Visualization. A collaboration between City St George's, University of London and the University of Warwick, it has secured £10M in funding from EPSRC and 20 commercial partners to develop and deliver innovative PhD training over the next decade. It is currently training the first of five cohorts of DIVERSE-CDT students in a PhD in Data Visualization and recruiting the second of five cohorts.
The research groups in Data Visualization (giCentre) and Human Computer Interaction Design (HCID), the Department of Computer Science at City St George's will host the Research Scientist. With over 60 academic staff and status that ranks it within the top third of computer science research institutions in the UK (REF2021), CS makes a key contribution to the leadership and delivery of DIVERSE-CDT.
You will be an influential supportive presence in our collaborative research space - a key member of DIVERSE-CDT.
You will be reactive - helping DIVERSE-CDT doctoral students in all aspects of research as needs emerge, and proactive identifying and nurturing students who require close support, scaffolding the learning of those who do not have a background in research with close guidance by offering help at hand at all times.
This role is key to providing a rich and supportive scientific learning environment for all, and a major component of the success of the Centre for Doctoral Training.
The successful applicant will hold a relevant PhD, have contributed to academic publications in visualisation in major journals or venues, have skills and experience in data (preparation, analysis, design and visualization) and research (developing and implementing reliable research methods that generate plausible results using a range of methodologies), and be critical and reflective in their approach.
You will have proven capability to support and mentor doctoral researchers.
