Full Job Description
We are seeking a Research Officer with an educational background in biomedical sciences and previous experience in research for wound dressing and peptide synthesis. The successful candidate will integrate into a multidisciplinary research team including biologists, clinicians, engineers, and mathematicians.
The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices, School of Applied Sciences, is offering a Research Officer position to support a multidisciplinary research project on the development of novel wound dressings that can both accelerate healing and provide prognostic information to clinicians. This is a 6-year project funded by the UKRI EPSRC (Value >£3.2M) that started in 2023.
You will support the research of others by undertaking basic research, for example, by contributing to the planning, preparing, setting up, conducting, and recording the outcomes of experiments and fieldwork; developing questionnaires and conducting surveys; conducting literature and database searches; coordinating information, assessing its value, and making recommendations; and administering smaller project budgets, including advice on cost-effective expenditure. This role will involve spending time working outside of the UK.
o A degree in Biomedical Sciences or Chemistry or an equivalent in the area of medical technologies.
o Some research experience/expertise and developing further skills in and knowledge of research methods and techniques in the field of peptide and biomaterial synthesis and characterisation.
o A demonstrable track record of laboratory work in the field of biomaterial and peptide synthesis and characterisation, particularly in relation to wound dressing applications.
o Competent IT skills and effective use of equipment software (e.g., peptide synthesiser, spectrophotometry, and infrared spectroscopy).
The University has an attractive range of benefits, and you can find more information in the "Working Here" section of our website, which includes information on equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as benefits and facilities.
This role is for 37 hours a week on a fixed-term contract until January 2027 and is available on a job-share basis.
