Research Methods Peer Tutor (Level 4)

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role., Working alongside the module teaching team, you will provide peer support during practical computer lab sessions throughout Semester 1 (across 11 weeks). You will help students develop their research skills by answering questions, supporting learning activities, and encouraging engagement with lab-based exercises. The role includes paid preparation time before teaching sessions, and full training and ongoing guidance will be provided. No previous teaching experience is required. This is an excellent opportunity to develop valuable transferable skills, including communication, leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence in supporting others. This will help you build a portfolio of transferable skills highly valued by employers across education, research, public and private sector environments. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate initiative, build confidence in supporting others, and gain practical experience. This can strengthen future job, placement and postgraduate applications. Contract Period: Week commencing 5 October to Friday 18 December Hours of Work: Approximately 2-4 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours depending on student demand and availability., Please also indicate any additional availability that may enable you to support further teaching sessions during Semester 1. We are seeking enthusiastic and approachable students to support fellow students studying the Level 4 Working with Data and Evidence (WDE) module., This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the following requirements. Applicants must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.,

• A current Level 5 or Level 6 student in the School of Sociology and Criminology
• Completed the WDE module at Level 4 or the core research modules (QDA and CRM) at Level 5.
• Confident using SPSS for both univariate and bivariate analysis
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and support students during practical learning activities.
• Reliable, organised, and able to manage time effectively.
• An interest in supporting the learning and development of fellow students.
• Must be available on either Mondays 2-6pm, Tuesdays 10-12pm or Wednesdays 1-6pm
Desirable Criteria
• Interest in developing skills and experience in teaching, training, coaching, mentoring, or student support.
• Experience supporting, mentoring, or guiding fellow students in an academic setting.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel and/or other data analysis software.
• Availability to support additional sessions if required.
