The Local Government Association (LGA) is undergoing an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we remain a strong, effective and sustainable voice for local government. Public Health Improvement Programme The Public Health Peer Review and External Support is a major new local authority public health improvement programme led by the Local Government Association (LGA) over the next three years. Funded by the Department for Health and Social Care, the programme will see the LGA work with councils in England, starting in June 2026, to support local public health teams to deliver better health outcomes for their communities. It will include delivery of a substantial programme of public health peer reviews. About the role For posts marked

  • The role will support the Programme Lead (Public Health) and Public Health Programme Board to develop and implement a national programme of public health improvement support. This will include undertaking high quality analysis, intelligence and research to inform, challenge and foster effective and innovative use of data, insights and research in support of the Programme delivery. You will be working closely with councils, including Directors of Public Health, Public Health Teams and the wider sector to ensure improvement support is co-developed and delivered to the highest standard. The role will support with high-quality content, advice and tools working closely with the LGA Research & Data Teams and Public Health Policy. The position is required to support immediate delivery needs The organisation is consulting on its operating model The grade and responsibilities are subject to confirmation Priority consideration may be given to employees at risk where they have the required qualifications and experience About you You'll be experienced of working in a public health team in local government with a broad understanding of how data sets, insights and information is used to inform plans, priorities and outcomes for communities. You will be experienced in using a range of platforms that help organisations collect, analyse, and act on feedback from customers and stakeholders e.g. Qualtrics. You will bring experience of using a range of tools for surveys, research and data analysis and adapt these to the needs of the Programme, providing pragmatic advice and working closely with the rest of the Programme Team. You will be enthusiastic to shape how the new programme develops and is implemented - and to make a positive contribution in supporting councils to fulfil their public health responsibilities and ambitions.     1. Ability to work with colleagues to understand their requirements and design research and analytical projects to meet them. 2. Experience in delivering research and analytical projects, using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. This may include survey design and distribution, topic guide development, piloting, conducting surveys, analysis of data (numerical or qualitative), writing research reports, producing infographics or data visualisations, promotion of research, and providing advice on the use of findings in media releases. 3. Ability to contribute to the development, delivery and promotion of the LG Inform data service, including the research and production of LG Inform reports. 4. Ability to develop networks and partnerships that add value and support the Programme, and work to maintain a positive reputation with local authorities, central government, partners and stakeholders. 5. Experience in providing and communicating relevant and up to date research findings and other data and information in an accessible and comprehensible form to the intended audience. 6. Ability to ensure effective quality assurance across all analytic and research activity. You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas.
