Full Job Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our research team in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University on an exciting project to develop a point-of-care biosensor for C-peptide assessment.
The project is funded by Breakthrough T1D (USA) via a Strategic Research Agreement grant, awarded to Dr Samet Şahin in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University. This is a full-time post commencing as soon as possible and is funded until the 1^st of December 2027. The interviews for this post will be held online.
The project aims to develop a blood test for C-peptide that can be performed at the time and place of patient care for the assessment of the pre-symptomatic period of type 1 diabetes. This will provide an easy and reliable C-peptide assessment with a significant reduction in time compared to conventional standards in clinical practice.
Role responsibilities:
As part of a friendly research team in Şahin Research Group (www.sametsahin.me), you will be responsible for:
o Design and synthesis of redox nanocomposite materials and characterisation
o Antibody immobilisation and characterisation
o Electrochemical testing and immunosensor characterisation

o A degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline.
o A PhD (or near completion) in electroactive materials, nanomaterials, electrochemical sensor technologies or a similar area.
o A publication record of research in a relevant area and the ability to collect, analyse and interpret experimental data, especially material synthesis and characterisation.
o Great problem-solving and organisational skills
o Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in dealing with carbon-based nanomaterials and redox nanocomposites, protein immobilisation and electrode modifications for electrochemical sensing is also desirable.
