We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join the Laboratory of Gene Regulation. The postholder will join Professor Douglas Higgs and Dr Mira Kassouf in researching changes in globin gene regulation in patients with Myelodysplasia. The research project combines advanced analysis of gene regulation and cell biology.
You will analyse the mechanism underlying normal and abnormal gene expression in material derived from patients with Myelodysplasia with guidance provided by senior colleagues. Responsibilities include using Standard Operating Procedures for use of reagents and equipment, quality assurance and quality control, ensuring standardisation and reproducibility of biological assays, nucleic acid sequencing and analysis.

You will hold a first degree with a detailed knowledge and practical experience of molecular and cell biology and in particular haematopoiesis. Experience of molecular biology techniques, cell culture with an understanding of methods of purifying cell populations is essential. Knowledge of genomics techniques including ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and RNA-seq and chromosome conformation capture techniques are also essential.
