Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join our team for a BBSRC funded project investigating the impact of the gut-liver axis on liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) infections in sheep. The project aims to elucidate host-parasite interactions along the gut-liver axis in sheep and determine whether gut bacteria and liver health status contribute to disease progression and animal tolerance to liver fluke infection.

The RA will be tasked with providing laboratory technical support for the project, performing extractions of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) for downstream microbiome and transcriptome analysis, and carrying out molecular analyses of ovine samples by PCR and Western blot. The role will also involve tissue culture techniques.

You will be working with Dr Krystyna Cwiklinski and her team in the Department of Infection Biology and Microbiomes at the University of Liverpool. You will be expected to work as part of a team, and also independently once appropriate guidance has been provided.

You should have a Bachelor's or higher degree in molecular biology, microbiology or related biological field and have experience working in laboratory, particularly using molecular biology techniques. Prior experience in cell culture techniques or microbiome studies would be advantageous.
