Full Job Description

The Research and Analysis Manager leads and delivers research projects, playing an important role in creating a robust and credible evidence base for the organisation to effectively influence national policy. The post sits within the organisations strategic policy directorate and works closely with colleagues across the networks, communications and commercial teams. The postholder will be responsible for designing and delivering robust quantitative and qualitative research, including conducting member surveys. They will implement good project management skills, ensure outputs are methodologically sound and tailored to a range of audiences. The postholder will regularly analyse NHS, health or relevant datasets, becoming an internal expert over time. They will monitor NHS performance, provide accurate data to colleagues and help shape external messaging about the issues facing members. The role plays a key part in ensuring information about our members is up-to-date and accurate. The postholder will also produce high-quality data visualisation outputs including graphs, infographics and dashboards to help communicate findings. The postholder will contribute to the analytical capability of the team, supporting the professional development of others, including the Research Analyst. The individual must be a team player with an ability to work flexibly, alongside having strong communication and organisational skills. Main duties of the job As the Research and Analysis Manager, you will:

  • Contribute to a high-quality evidence base for the organisation to support the organisations policy, influencing and media objectives.
  • Design and conduct member research, including surveys, to deepen understanding of the challenges facing members and the wider NHS.
  • Deliver high-quality research and analysis, supporting senior colleagues, media enquiries and internal requests.
  • Lead monitoring and analysis of NHS performance and health datasets, identifying trends and implications for members and policy development.
  • Apply project management practices across the research and analysis function, with support from the Senior Research and Analysis Manager)., Contribute to a high quality evidence base for the organisation, using robust quantitative and qualitative research methods and desk based research to support the organisations policy, influencing and media objectives.
  • Design and conduct member research, including surveys, to deepen understanding of the challenges facing members and the wider NHS, ensuring research activity is coordinated with communications activity and avoids oversampling.
  • Deliver high-quality research and analysis, identifying relevant data sources, assuring analytical quality, and supporting senior colleagues, media enquiries and internal requests often at pace.
  • Lead monitoring and analysis of NHS performance and health datasets, including tracking activity, targets, quality and patient experience metrics, identifying trends and implications for members and policy development - over time becoming an internal expert on relevant NHS datasets.
  • Implement robust data cleaning and validation processes and use high-quality data visualisations to effectively communicate findings through graphs, infographics and dashboards.
  • Apply project management practices across the research and analysis function, setting milestones, managing delivery (with support from the Senior Research and Analysis Manager), engaging stakeholders, and presenting findings clearly to internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate effectively with external and internal stakeholders including colleagues across the strategic policy directorate, networks, communications and commercial teams, ensuring effective dissemination of findings.

    Strong quantitative and qualitative research expertise including conducting surveys, with relevant experience and/or qualifications in delivering research projects and findings that inform recommendations to influence public policy.
  • A solid understanding of quantitative analysis using Microsoft Excel, including producing high-quality data visualisation in this programme or other data visualisation tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and using robust data cleaning and validation practices to ensure work is to a high standard.
  • Experience of delivering multiple projects concurrently, while working as part of a team to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills underpinned by good project management practices.
  • Desirable
  • An understanding of the UK health system, the NHS, or related public policy including experience of analysing NHS datasets.
  • Experience using SPSS, R, survey tools and/or other data analysis software.
  • Experience using data visualisation software packages such as Power BI.
