Full Job Description

  • Take lead responsibility for the coding of complex activity including deceased patients to the highest standard of quality coded data as verified by audit
  • Maintain coding accuracy when audited in line with national requirements
  • Assist the Management team in validation of coded data and to monitor and report on performance and data quality issues as appropriate
  • Organise and take lead responsibility for the cover of absent team members, extraction of clinical information from patient's case notes and the coding of this information across a variety of wards and specialities
  • Participate in the development and management of coding services to enhance the accuracy of clinical coding
  • Exhibit expert knowledge of clinical coding data aspects in support of Payment by Results and participate in the management of the clinical coding service to provide accurate, timely and completed coded clinical data for all episodes of care for all specialties within the Trust using ICD10 and OPCS4, Support the Deputy Head of Clinical Administration in the development and delivery of training sessions and feedback to clinical coders, clinicians and managers in order to improve the quality of clinical coded data
  • Support the Clinical Coding team with answering coding queries from all areas of the Trust as and when required
  • Take responsibility for maintaining and continuously developing in depth analysis of clinically coded data. Work closely with the Clinical Coding team in order to ensure that the Trust maximises its quality of coded data whilst conforming to clinical coding rules and conventions
  • Feedback and participate in clinical audits or validation work as required by the clinical team to ensure high quality documentation.
  • Participate in audits with the Clinical Coding Auditor to ensure that the Trust always has high quality clinically coded data available for the purpose of analysis and income generation
  • Respond positively to clinical coding queries from outside the department, ensuring that the information supplied is both accurate and suitable for its intended purpose
  • Provide mentor/coaching support to the Clinical Coding trainees to aid development and knowledge.
