Full Job Description

Our Porters ensure the provision of an effective and efficient reception and support to students, staff, Fellows and visitors. Porters are also responsible for responding to any emergency situation such as fire alarm or security issue within the College., Respond to requests for help from College members.

Undertake welfare checks of students and Fellows on behalf of the College Nurse and Tutors.

Be the first point of contact in dealing with physical and mental health issues. Provide immediate support and ensure appropriate referrals are made.

Pro-actively identify concerns with residents, including Fellows, and ensure that relevant people in the College are fully briefed of concerns.

Receive all non-tourist visitors to the college. Provide a high level of customer care when dealing with enquiries from members of the College and visitors, ensuring their total satisfaction with the service the Porters' Lodge has provided.

Provide assistance with car parking and cycling.

Provide an efficient welcome and departure service at matriculation, graduation and other College events. Answer queries and provide reassurance to newly arriving students and families. Provide support to the college in managing Open Days.

Provide the College with a switchboard service, dealing with enquiries from members of the College, the University, and the public.

Receive, collect and sort all mail and commercial deliveries. Deliver mail on the agreed schedules and ensure accurate and safe storage of parcels.

Resolve immediate out of hours minor maintenance issues prior to calling out maintenance/contractors.

Raise and lower flags and wind the College clock.

Provide an effective and efficient receptionist service for guest accommodation.

Carry out duties as directed by the Head Porter to ensure the highest security levels are maintained for College buildings, students and staff.

Respond to emergency/critical situations and implement emergency procedures as directed.

Knowledge & experience

Experience of work in a service industry/environment.

Experience of a public facing role in a customer care environment.

Experience of work involving security, safety and welfare.

Willingness to undertake training in first aid at work and mental health first aid and awareness.

Ability to produce and maintain accurate records.

Computer literate and numerate

Professional telephone manner

Personal skills & abilities

Positive and flexible approach to work.

Ability to make quick decisions in difficult situations and work well under pressure.

Good communication skills including the ability to listen.

Approachable, reliable, conscientious and trustworthy.

High standard of personal appearance.

Commitment to the welfare of Students, Fellows and the wider College Community.

£15.29 per hour

We are seeking new team members to join our Lodge on a relief basis, working night shifts to cover holiday and other absences.

This is a varied role that touches all elements of College life.
