Are you looking for your next role? How about Regulatory Services?
Regulatory Services is where legislation meets the real world. We are out across the city every day, in various locations such as; restaurants and retail units, private rented homes, festivals and events, licensed premises and on the roadside, ensuring standards are met and risks are properly managed. We investigate complaints, carry out inspections, gather evidence and, where necessary, use our statutory powers to protect the public. It is visible work. It is practical. And it makes a tangible difference.
Our service brings together specialist teams in Licensing, Food and Public Safety, Noise, Pollution and Area Environmental Health, Taxi Vehicle Testing, Trading Standards, Housing Standards and HMO Licensing, and Selective Licensing. Together we protect health, improve housing conditions, regulate licensed activity, respond to environmental concerns and support responsible businesses to thrive. The work ranges from advisory visits and compliance checks through to formal enforcement action and preparing and attending cases for court or hearings.
Regulatory Compliance Officers lead detailed inspections and build evidence based cases that stand up to scrutiny, ensuring businesses and landlords meet their statutory obligations.
Regulatory Officers manage applications, undertake inspections and make informed decisions that balance support with proportionate enforcement.
The ability to prepare clear reports and statements for potential legal proceedings is essential, and you may be required to represent the Service and the Council at formal hearings. If you are motivated by meaningful, outward facing work and confident in applying legislation in real world situations, we would welcome your application.
What you will be doing
We are seeking a motivated Regulatory Compliance Officer (Grade 7) who will support senior officers with a caseload of complex cases. You will also hold and manage your own caseload of requests/applications/relationships/accounts relating the work area, undertake assessments and activities, make appropriate decisions, and provide detailed advice and guidance. In addition there is a requirement to represent the Council/team through the provision of support and information, which may be required for legal purposes.
We are seeking a motivated Regulatory Officer (Grade 5) to support the organisation in meeting its statutory and regulatory obligations.
Working with other Officers you will work on cases and support colleagues with progressing their inspections and enforcement action. You'll assist with gathering evidence including witness statements and expert opinions to create robust cases for formal enforcement.
For further information on the role, please look at the job specification. Please note that for certain teams there will be specific requirements such as a qualification. Appointment to each level will be dependant on candidate knoweldge, skills and experience.
