Full Job Description

As a Registration Officer, you will:

  • Act as a Registration Officer for Births, Deaths, Stillbirths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships.
  • Conduct and record Marriage, Civil Partnership and other non-statutory ceremonies.
  • Carry out all administrative duties associated with life events registration and ceremonies.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to customers on registration matters.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with legislation and service procedures.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service in both office and ceremony settings.
  • About the Position The role is primarily based at our offices in Paignton, but you will also travel throughout Torbay to conduct ceremonies at approved venues and licensed premises. The successful candidate will work three fixed days each week and will also be required to participate in a weekend ceremonies rota alongside a team of experienced Registration Officers. Flexibility is important, as ceremony duties vary throughout the year., Joining Torbay Registration Service offers the opportunity to become part of a friendly, experienced and dedicated team that takes pride in supporting residents during some of life's most significant occasions. Whether welcoming a new arrival, helping a family through bereavement, celebrating a marriage. you will play an important role in creating positive experiences for our customers and communities. This post meets the requirements of the Public Services Network (PSN) and therefore will require a Basic Criminal Record Check. This will show any unspent convictions and conditional cautions.

  • Holds a full driving licence and has access to transport for travel across Torbay., Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of customer focused, face to face environment.
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels in a tactful, diplomatic and confident manner.
  • Ability to deal with distressed/bereaved/emotional people.
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
  • Knowledge Essential:
  • Knowledge and practical experience of Microsoft including Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of handling confidential information and applying Data Protection.
  • A good standard of written English., Experience in working as part of a team.
  • Public speaking.
  • Good time keeping.
  • Record keeping and inputting data with attention to detail.
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent to include English and Mathematics.
