Full Job Description

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join the Pre-Operative Assessment Team.This service has been established to provide additional capacity and support patients progressing through the elective surgical pathway, ensuring timely treatment and delivery against RTT targets. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering comprehensive pre-operative assessments for elective surgical patients across a range of specialties, including Urology, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, and Head & Neck services.,

  • Deliver nurse-led pre-assessment clinics for elective surgical patients.
  • Complete full pre-operative assessments in line with Trust protocols and specialty-specific requirements.
  • Accurately document patient assessments and clinical outcomes.
  • Record information on Trust systems, including PAS and EPR.
  • Identify and escalate high-risk findings to the Pre-Assessment Lead or designated clinical link nurse.

Essential Requirements Applicants must: + Hold current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse. + Have demonstrable pre-assessment experience with elective surgical patients. + Have experience working across relevant specialties, including Urology, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, and Head & Neck. + Maintain full mandatory training compliance throughout the contract. + Hold appropriate professional indemnity cover. + Meet all competency requirements relevant to pre-operative assessment services. + Comply with Trust policies, procedures, and clinical governance standards. Service Information + Outpatient pre-assessment service. + Supporting approximately 840-1,008 patients per month. + Around 10-12 patient appointments per session. + Working within a multidisciplinary team alongside Healthcare Assistants and specialist clinical staff. Training & Induction For nurses with previous Mid & South Essex pre-assessment experience: + Virtual induction provided by the Trust's Pre-Assessment Lead. For nurses new to Mid & South Essex: + CV approval required before mobilisation. + One-day on-site induction at Southend Hospital. + Completion of IT access and clinical systems training before commencing clinics.
