Registered Nurse - STORM

As well as having significant experience in the management of Orthopaedic patients, the Team Leader will be required to; Facilitate Same Day Discharge for Elective Joint replacement patients through the provision of a Nurse-led Specialist Orthopaedic Recovery Management Team (STORM) for joint replacement patients to cover the needs of the service for both pre and post operative elective orthopaedic surgery. Assess patients in their own homes, pre-operatively for fitness for and to identify health concerns (can be complicated medical conditions involved) which may prevent surgery being performed. Assessment of home environment. Patients can be elderly, in pain with communication problems and may have complex case histories. The information given about treatment is often highly complex. Need to have empathy and to be reassuring. Ensure that the standards and quality of care given are maintained to a high standard, to include a safe environment in which care is delivered.
