Registered Learning Disability Nurse

Elm Ward is an 8-bedded specialist Learning Disability inpatient service providing assessment, treatment, and support for adults with learning disabilities and associated mental health, behavioural, and complex care needs. The ward offers a structured, person-centred, and therapeutic environment focused on promoting independence, improving quality of life, reducing restrictive practices, and supporting individuals to achieve their personal goals., As a Staff Nurse (RNLD) on Elm Ward, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality nursing care to individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will support service users through assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning, promoting positive outcomes and enhancing quality of life. In addition to providing direct clinical care, you will contribute to the effective management of the ward by coordinating shifts, supporting the Charge Nurse and Team Leader, and ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and responsive environment. You will act as a role model for junior staff, students, and new team members, promoting best practice and person-centred care. The role requires flexibility to work a full range of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.,

• Acting as the Named Nurse for an identified group of service users, coordinating assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Delivering person-centred nursing interventions that promote wellbeing, independence, positive risk-taking, and recovery.
• Supporting service users with complex physical, mental health, behavioural, and emotional needs.
• Ensuring compliance with the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding legislation, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (where applicable), and Trust policies.
• Contributing to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches and least restrictive practice.
• Working collaboratively with families, carers, advocates, and community services to support positive outcomes and discharge planning.
• Supporting the day-to-day operation of the ward and supervising junior staff, support workers, students, and newly qualified nurses.
• Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and governance activities.

• A Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with current NMC registration.
• Knowledgeable and experienced in caring for individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs.
• Skilled in assessment, care planning, risk management, and person-centred interventions.
• Passionate about improving outcomes for people with learning disabilities.
• An excellent communicator who can establish effective therapeutic relationships.
• Organised, adaptable, and able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Committed to continuous professional development and delivering high-quality care aligned with the Trust's values., Relevant Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
• LD trained nurse
• Demonstrable commitment to ongoing training and development
Desirable criteria
• Practice assessor and Practice supervisor (Or equivalent)
• Additional training in Positive Behaviour Support, Autism, or Learning Disability Practice., Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
• Knowledge of common physical, mental health, behavioural, and emotional needs experienced by people with learning disabilities.
• Experience of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating person-centred care.
• Working knowledge of legislation, policy, and best practice relating to learning disabilities, safeguarding, and mental capacity.
Desirable criteria
• Experience working within an inpatient learning disability setting.
• Experience supporting individuals who present with behaviours that challenge services.
• Experience participating in quality improvement or service development initiatives., You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
