Registered General Nurse

To provide highly quality primary healthcare to low secure mental health patients, working as part of multidisciplinary as a primary healthcare Nurse.

To lead on the delivery of high-quality physical healthcare within a Low Secure Forensic Unit, ensuring patients receive comprehensive assessment, monitoring, treatment, and health promotion interventions. The post holder will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to address physical health needs alongside mental health recovery, reduce health inequalities, improve health outcomes, and support patients to achieve and maintain optimum physical wellbeing within a secure care environment., This role requires a NMC Registered General Nurse to work as part of a team delivering primary healthcare within a low secure setting.

The physical health Nurse works within a Low Secure Forensic Unit providing specialist physical healthcare to adults with complex mental health needs who require care within a secure setting. The role involves undertaking physical health assessments, monitoring and managing long-term health conditions, coordinating physical health screening programmes, supporting health promotion initiatives, and contributing to recovery-focused care planning.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder liaises with psychiatrists, nursing colleagues, psychologists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, primary care services, acute healthcare providers, and other relevant professionals to ensure patients receive holistic and integrated care. The role requires the ability to balance physical healthcare priorities with the challenges associated with forensic mental health services, promoting patient engagement, supporting informed decision-making, and ensuring compliance with national standards, Trust policies, and evidence-based practice. The post holder also contributes to staff education, service improvement initiatives, clinical effectiveness and the continuous development of physical healthcare provision within the forensic pathway.
