Full Job Description

The Regional Intelligence Officer sits within the intelligence function; which also includes the Regional Intelligence Analyst with whom the successful applicant will work alongside. The Team implements and supports the National Trading Standards Intelligence Operating Model locally, regionally and nationally. Based in Middlesbrough, the Intelligence function sits alongside, and works closely with, the North-East Regional Investigations Team. The role involves engagement with agencies such as the Police, HMRC, Border Force, the Food Standards Agency and Local Authority Trading Standards Services across all regions of Great Britain. Overseen by both the regional and national taking groups, the role involves the management and use of intelligence and the creation of intelligence products at both tactical and strategic levels. It also involves regular reporting to partner agencies and funders on its work and outcomes., The role is currently split into two part-time (18.5 hour a week) posts. You will therefore be expected to work closely with the other person covering the position to ensure a smooth and efficient transition of duties between you across the working week. As part of the role, it is expected that the incumbent will attend meetings and events throughout the North-East and Great Britain as necessary for the development and promotion of the Regional Intelligence function.

  • We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic self-starter, with good research and analytical skills, together with an understanding of how intelligence is managed and used in an enforcement function.
  • A good understanding of Microsoft packages (particularly Excel) is a prerequisite with a major part of the role being the collation and manipulation of large data sets.
  • An understanding of Trading Standards legislation / processes would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Applicants will also need good problem-solving skills together with an ability to form and maintain relationships with partners but particularly those vital to the working of the Trading Standards Operating Model.

    The North-East Trading Standards Association is a partnership of the 12 Local Authority Trading Standards Services within the North-East of England. As part of its role, it oversees a Regional Intelligence Function aimed at co-ordinating criminal intelligence work across the area.
