Full Job Description
Following refurbishment of our Older Person's Mental Health (OPMH) inpatient wards, an exciting opportunity has arisen for Recovery Workers to join us at Gosport War Memorial Hospital. This role involves providing recovery for older people experiencing a wide range of acute mental health conditions who have been admitted to the inpatient unit for a period of assessment and treatment. We are seeking candidates with life experience and who has a passion for working with older people. You need to be hardworking, honest and reliable to complement our established team. You will be a good communicator with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, who has a flexible approach/attitude and experience of working in mental health. You will work within a compassionate team, lead by a supportive Ward Manager and Therapy Lead. You will be required to work independently as well as part of the team. Part of this role will be to engage with our patients to work towards a successful outcome for their discharge. We have full and part time duties available. Providing a seven day a week service, working early shifts - 07:00 to 15:00 and late shifts - 13:00 to 21:00 The successful candidates will receive regular supervision and appraisal. A willingness to undertake training relevant to the post is essential., In this role you will deliver a range of social, functional and recreational activities which are accessible and meaningful to service users who have been admitted to an acute Older Person's Mental Health ward, in order to:
- Maintain and promote functional skills
- Help individuals exercise choice and preference and self-occupation
- Provide sense of enjoyment, satisfaction and mental well-being
- Offer opportunity to take part in current interests or develop new ones and therefore contribute to their own recovery
- Engage all service users on the ward in group or individual sessions under the guidance of the therapy team and nursing team
- Encourage and support service users with self-occupation and autonomous activity
- Support the nursing staff with the daily routines of the ward, assisting with personal care, meal times and behaviour management You will be responsible for the daily coordination and facilitation of enjoyable, functional and meaningful activities in which to engage patients who are on the ward. You will have an overview of the ward environment and ensure that it is therapeutic and recovery focussed. You will have the authority to speak with patient's relatives with the aim of ensuring their care is as personalised and patient led as possible. You will have the authority to identify scope for change and service improvement and discuss these with clinical supervisor and the ward manager.
