Full Job Description

The post holder will work under the supervision of the Theatre/Recovery Co-Ordinator and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of patient care and staff development, as part of the theatre team. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise unqualified and adaptation staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified within your level of competency.

  • To provide high quality, safe, effective, individualised care to patients and support to their relatives.
  • To take responsibility for managing and co-ordinating an assigned area of the department in the absence of more senior staff.
  • To work within multi-disciplinary team whilst providing continuity of care to all the patients admitted and discharged within the department.
  • To participate in the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff as required.
  • To ensure that all activities are carried out within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policies and guidelines.

    We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our Main Theatre Recovery team, providing care to both adult and paediatric patients.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality, evidence-based post-operative care, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the recovery phase. This includes monitoring physiological parameters, airway management, pain management and recognising and responding to potential complications. You will work collaboratively and cooperatively with the multidisciplinary theatre team, including anaesthetists, surgeons, scrub nurses, anaesthetic practitioners, and HCA's , to support safe and effective patient pathways. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care in line with Trust values and professional standards. This post offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in peri-operative and recovery nursing, including exposure to paediatric care, within a supportive NHS theatre environment.
