Full Job Description
We are looking for a new colleague to join our dedicated team of receptionists, responsible for the successful running of the reception area of Lakenheath Surgery. Applicants need to be smart, professional, friendly, reliable and punctual. You will need to work well under pressure, pay attention to detail and have excellent customer care skills. Successful candidates that perform well in their role will have the opportunity to take on more demanding administrative duties, to support the wider practice team. Part time hours are 24 hours per week.
- Monday 08:00-15:00
- Tuesday 08:00-13:00
- Thursday 08:00-13:00
- Friday 11:00-18:30, To provide a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the Practice team.
- Register new patients and temporary residents
- Greet and direct patients and visitors
- Booking appointments for patients within the clinical computer systems including routine, urgent, Long Term Condition, blood tests and specialist clinics
- Support doctors and nurses
- Deal with general enquiries and complaints
- Scanning in clinical letters
- Receiving post and distributing accordingly
- Answering general enquiries, explaining surgery procedures and making follow-up appointments for patients and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
- Receiving and recording requests for home visits
- Ensuring that the reception area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues
- Ensuring outstanding queries are explained or tasked and handed over to next shift
- Undertaking clerical duties as delegated by the partners/practice manager
- Contacting other providers as necessary General duties:
- Opening of surgery premises, checking heating and ventilation
- Observe health and safety guidelines at all times
- Supporting the implementation of new practices and procedures within the practice. Qualities required of post holder:
- Good communication skills
- Good computer and keyboard skills
- Flexibility to work additional hours to provide holiday/sickness cover when required

Our receptionist shifts are between 7.45am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday and all of our receptionists work at least one morning starting at 7:45am and at least one late finishing at 6.30pm. Applicants need to consider this as it will be a requirement of the successful candidate. Flexibility is very important and you must be able to take on extra shifts to cover annual leave, training and sickness. Saturday working is required during specific campaigns such as the offering of flu and covid vaccination clinics, and is worked on an overtime basis. Lakenheath Surgery provides patient services from its current location in the High Street, Lakenheath. The premises, a former residential dwelling was re-designed purposefully into the well-equipped GP practice we see today and is partner owned. There is also ample on site, disabled and street parking. The practice has a clear vision to deliver high quality care, with core values which were developed by the whole health care team.
