Full Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and committed undergraduate students to join Alsop High School, as Reading Intervention Mentors. This is an excellent opportunity for students considering careers in education, psychology, speech and language therapy, literacy support, or youth work, and who are passionate about helping young people develop confidence and success in reading. Successful applicants will work with small groups of pupils aged 11-15 todeliver structured reading interventions using the Lexonic Leap and Lexonic Advance programmes. Full training will be provided. Mentors will:
- Deliver reading intervention sessions to groups of approximately 5-8pupils
- Support pupils to improve reading fluency, confidence and comprehension
- Work closely with experienced colleagues leading reading intervention within the school
- Receive guidance, supervision and ongoing support throughout the role Why This Role Matters Reading is the foundation of learning. When young people are able to read confidently and fluently, they are better able to access the curriculum, develop independence, achieve academically and engage fully with the world around them. For some pupils, difficulties with reading can affect confidence, participation and future opportunities. By supporting pupils to strengthen these skills, mentors can make a genuine and lasting difference to their educational experience and future life chances. This role offers the opportunity to see pupils grow in confidence, develop resilience and experience success through targeted support and encouragement., the we place a high value on managing the amount of work given to staff and ensuring that their overall wellbeing is considered.
