Full Job Description
Are you the kind of person who can spark a philosophical debate before morning break… and still remember to set homework? Do you believe Plato, pizza, and prayer can all happily coexist in one lesson? Can you pronounce eschatology before your first coffee? If so… we might just be your people. The Role (a.k.a. Your Next Adventure) We're on the lookout for an inspiring, slightly eccentric (in the best way) Religious Education teacher to join our vibrant team at University Collegiate School in Bolton. You'll teach curious young minds about:
- Big ideas (Is there a purpose to life? Why does pineapple on pizza divide humanity?)
- World religions and belief systems
- Ethics, morality, and how to disagree kindly
- The art of asking really good questions Bonus points if you can make Year 9 gasp in amazement at a parable. What We're Looking For You might be our ideal candidate if you… Love debate, discussion and the occasional dramatic pause Can turn "Sir/Miss, why are we learning this?" into a brilliant conversation Know your way around major world religions (and maybe a few lesser-known ones for spice) Have a sense of humour stronger than a Year 8 dodgeball throw Can build relationships faster than students can spot a free lesson Teaching experience is essential-passion is non-negotiable. What You'll Get in Return At UCS Bolton, we offer more than just a job:
- An additional day of leave - a wellness day to focus on your wellbeing
- Cycle to work scheme and family friendly policies
- A supportive, forward-thinking school community
- Students who will surprise, challenge, and occasionally confuse you (in a good way)
- Opportunities to innovate and bring your weird and wonderful ideas to life
- Tea. Lots of tea. Possibly biscuits. A Typical Day Might Include:
- Leading a lively debate about free will
- Explaining karma using a football analogy
- Comforting a student having an existential crisis before lunch
- Celebrating a moment when everything just clicks Important Question Can you answer "What is truth?" without causing a staff meeting debate that lasts 45 minutes? Perfect. You'll fit right in.
