  • We welcome several thousand visitors every year, from local dog walkers to international tourists. The portfolio covers 5 properties in the Tyne valley including:
  • 6 miles of Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, encompassing 6 Tenant Farms
  • Allen Bank & Staward Gorge: Northumberland's largest ancient semi-natural woodland

  • What you'll be doing Working as part of the Countryside team, based from offices at Cherryburn, you will help manage and maintain the countryside and outdoors space of the Hadrian's Wall portfolio. Your skills and experience will help deliver the nature and people ambitions of the portfolio as a whole. A small glimpse at some of the skills we will require are: undertaking habitat management, invasive species control, dry stone walling, access improvement works such as building steps and boardwalks, working with and leading volunteers, contractor management, wildlife management, undertaking felling and tree safety works, at all times working to the National Trust brand and values. You'll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You'll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you'll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task. You'll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You'll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
