Ranger (Habitat Banking & Biodiversity Net Gain)

Are you passionate about practical conservation and interested in helping deliver the next generation of habitat restoration and nature recovery projects? Huntingdonshire District Council is looking for an enthusiastic and practical Ranger to join our Parks & Countryside Team, with a particular focus on supporting our growing Habitat Banking and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) programme. This is an exciting opportunity to help turn ambitious plans for nature into practical improvements on the ground. Working across Council-owned green spaces, you will help create, restore and enhance grasslands, hedgerows, woodlands, wetlands and other valuable wildlife habitats. About the role You will work alongside Rangers, ecologists, contractors, volunteers and partner organisations to translate habitat management plans into practical action. Your work will include practical habitat creation and management, leading volunteer work parties, supporting contractors and undertaking habitat surveys and monitoring. You'll maintain accurate records, identify emerging issues and help adapt management where habitats are not developing as expected. Alongside Habitat Banking and BNG projects, you'll support our wider Ranger team in managing Huntingdonshire's country parks, nature reserves and open spaces, including site management, visitor engagement, events and Duty Ranger responsibilities.

We're looking for someone with:

• Experience of practical conservation or countryside management.
• A good understanding of habitat and wildlife conservation.
• Confidence using practical countryside tools and equipment.
• An understanding of safe working practices and risk assessments.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A full driving licence.
You don't need to be a BNG expert. Knowledge or experience of Biodiversity Net Gain, habitat condition assessment, ecological monitoring or habitat restoration would be advantageous, but we're equally interested in candidates with strong practical conservation skills and the enthusiasm to develop their knowledge. Relevant countryside management qualifications or equivalent practical experience are required. Chainsaw, brushcutter and other operational qualifications would be advantageous.
