Radiology Assistant

Patient Care and Support

• Welcome and assist patients and visitors professionally
• Provide clear explanations and reassurance
• Assist with dressing/undressing while maintaining dignity, as needed
• Act as chaperone when required
• Support safe patient movement and handling, after training
Administrative Duties
• Undertake clerical duties eg booking patients in, answering the telephone and entering data using Nelson+/EPR/CRIS systems
• Maintain accurate patient records
• Complete end-of-scan processes including adding accession numbers to Nelson+
• Conduct telephone screening (post-training and as required)
Clinical Support
• Assist radiographers during CT scanning
• Support general clinical workflow
Operational Responsibilities
• Maintain stock and supplies
• Ensure clean and organised environments
• Maintain departmental records
Compliance and Safety
• Follow infection control and radiation safety regulations
• Work under the direction of the radiographer and/or nurse
• Adhere to Trust policies
• Participate in departmental, Directorate audit and clinical governance within scope of practice and under guidance of the senior team.
Training and Development
• Complete mandatory training
• Undertake Care Certificate (as required)
• Participate in service improvement, The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Radiology Assistant to join our expanding Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) Service. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic team helping to detect lung cancer earlier and improve outcomes for patients across Oxfordshire. This is a mobile service, and the post holder will be required to work in the Lung Cancer Screening mobile CT unit at locations across Oxfordshire. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Radiology Assistant to join our expanding Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) Service. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic team helping to detect lung cancer earlier and improve outcomes for patients across Oxfordshire. As a key member of the Lung Cancer Screening team, you will play an important role in supporting participants throughout their screening journey. Working alongside Radiographers on our mobile CT scanning unit, and our Nurse team, you will provide practical support, reassurance, and compassionate care to participants attending for their scans, helping to create a positive and welcoming experience. No two days are the same in this varied role. Alongside your clinical support duties, you will contribute to the smooth running of the service by managing appointments, contacting participants, maintaining accurate records, and using a range of specialist radiology and screening systems. Full training will be provided, including training in our bespoke Lung Cancer Screening database and service processes, making this an excellent opportunity to develop new skills and gain experience within a growing specialist service. One of the unique aspects of this role is the opportunity to work across Oxfordshire on our mobile CT scanning unit. As the service travels to different communities, you will help bring life-saving screening closer to the people who need it most. The ability to travel to locations throughout Oxfordshire is therefore essential. Following training, you may also have the opportunity to undertake telephone-based participant screening, helping identify individuals who may benefit from a lung health check. This aspect of the role requires excellent communication skills, empathy, and confidence when speaking with people from a wide range of backgrounds. This role would suit someone who:
• Enjoys working directly with patients and providing excellent customer care.
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is organised, adaptable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Is confident using IT systems and willing to learn new technologies.
• Wants to contribute to a pioneering service that is helping save lives through early cancer detection., GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths, grades A-C
• Demonstrates ability to travel around locations in Oxfordshire
• Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
• NVQ Level 2 in Health/Diagnostic Care of equivalent
• Awareness of radiology services
• Experience of working in the NHS
