Full Job Description
This opportunity has arisen, for an enthusiastic, motivated, clinical scientist to lead the Radiation Protection service within our Radioisotope Physics Group. We provide support to radioisotope services in various departments, including oncology, nuclear medicine and PET/CT, nuclear cardiology, laboratories etc., The main role of this post is to lead the Radioisotope Protection service and to provide radiation protection expert advice to the Trust(s) departments in the field of Radioisotopes.,
- To provide radiation protection expert advice to the Trust(s) departments in the field of Radioisotopes.
- In consultation with HOG to ensure that all aspects of the radioisotope physics services are provided in accordance with relevant legislation and national guidance and develop Trust policies accordingly, negotiate with departments and support them in developing their working practices.
- To deliver teaching and training for all staff groups using radioactive materials
- To assist HOG in coordinating with regulatory affairs and to provide support for licence submissions and regulatory inspections
- To be involved in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to national standards, etc., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant subject - Relevant MSc or higher degree
- Completion of STP or equivalent experience /training
- Eligible for RPA2000 Certification as Medical Physics Expert for Nuclear Medicine SCientific/technicalEssential criteria
- Extensive knowledge of radiation and associated areas within Medical Physics.
- Highly developed, specialist level of theoretical and practical knowledge across the full range of working procedures and practices within Radioisotope Physics.
- In depth knowledge of legislation, national standards and professional guidance relevant to the duties of the post (IRR, IRMER including ARSAC, EPR)
- Practical experience in Radiation Protection related to NM and PET
- Specialist knowledge and experience to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Nuclear Medicine and PET ClinicalEssential criteria
- Thorough understanding of patient and staff risks arising from the use of ionising radiation, nuclear medicine isotopes for diagnosis and therapies, and equipment and procedures for routine nuclear medicine services
- Broad and developed knowledge of clinical procedures and practices for patient diagnosis and therapy in Nuclear Medicine.
- Advanced knowledge of issues arising from clinical practice and their implications for Radioisotope physics practices.
- Used to working, collaborating and leading in multidisciplinary teams
- Able to participate in the provision and development of a clinical scientific and technical service.
- Able to facilitate the introduction of new radioisotope services, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
