Full Job Description
Come and join the team at HMP Brixton!
A rare opportunity has arisen to join our prison radio project at HMP Brixton, the beating heart of National Prison Radio.
We're the charity that developed and runs National Prison Radio, the world's first national radio station for people in prison.
Last year we won the Rose D'Or, were named Production Company of the Year at the Audio Production Awards, and Best Network at the British Podcast Awards.
We run the groundbreaking podcast for people who have left prison, called Life After Prison, as well as the smash hit Secret Life of Prisons podcast.
We're looking for a Radio Producer to join our team at HMP Brixton. Working alongside men serving prison sentences, you'll be part of a small, high-performing staff team - making life-changing programmes for broadcast into prison cells across the country on National Prison Radio.
Ours is an organisation unlike any other, and we're particularly interested in hearing from people who have the required skills and have lived experience of the criminal justice system.
We're looking for a technically proficient audio professional with a proven track record in producing and editing high-quality music programmes. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of music across multiple genres and sound editorial judgement. This is not an entry level role, but would suit someone early on in their career who is looking for their next challenge and wants to make radio in an environment like no other.
We're a driven, tight-knit team working in what can be a challenging, exhilarating world, and you will be motivated by the knowledge that your work has the potential to make a real difference.
This is a London based role and you must live within commuting distance from HMP Brixton. Occasional travel to other prisons across the country may be required.
Please download the full job description here.
How to apply: To apply for this role, please send your CV along with either a covering letter (no more than two sides of A4), or a video of no more than three minutes, outlining how you meet the person specification to recruitment@prison.radio. In both formats, you should give specific examples of how your experience meets the criteria.
Please also send us one example of a production you have been responsible for. If you are invited to interview, you will be expected to talk about how the production came about and what your role was.
Alongside your application, you should also attach a completed References Form and Diversity Monitoring Form.
If you have any questions or would like an informal conversation about the role, please email Abbey Darling, Director of Operations and Women's Projects on abbey@prison.radio.
Deadline for applications: Midnight on Sunday 13th September 2026.
In line with our company Data Retention Schedule, we keep application forms up to one year after notifying candidates of the outcome of the recruitment exercise after which time they will be securely destroyed. If your application is successful, data regarding your references will be kept on file for up to seven years after your employment ends in line with other HR documentation. If your application is unsuccessful, data regarding your references will be securely destroyed. Data from diversity monitoring forms is recorded anonymously for recruitment KPIs and monitoring workforce equality and forms are securely destroyed. If for any reason we need to keep your recruitment data on record for longer than specified, you will be notified. For more information, please see our Recruitment Privacy Notice here.
