Introduction
Our Commercial team keeps JSM's projects on budget and on contract. As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice, you'll help monitor and control the costs and commercial side of our construction and infrastructure projects, learning from experienced surveyors.
About the Employer
JSM Group brings together three connected businesses – Power, Digital Infrastructure and Advisory – to design, build and connect the infrastructure the country relies on, from concept to connection.
Behind our project teams are the people who keep JSM running and winning work: our IT, Pre-Construction and Commercial teams. An apprenticeship with us means real responsibility from day one, a nationally recognised qualification, and the support of experienced colleagues who want you to succeed.
Our values shape how we work: we are Personal (human, caring and accountable), Brilliant (better together), Driven (determined and always improving) and known for Sound Judgment (making intelligent, well-reasoned decisions).
What You'll Do
- Assist quantity surveyors and senior quantity surveyors with budgeting, cost planning and controlling costs across projects.
- Help measure and value completed work and support interim valuations and payment applications.
- Support procurement – obtaining and comparing quotes and helping select and manage subcontractors and suppliers.
- Help administer contracts and keep accurate records that support fair, dispute-free working.
- Record, control and report income and expenditure, and help prepare cash-flow, cost forecasts and financial reports.
- Assist with collecting, collating, storing and analysing commercial data, keeping files organised.
- Apply health & safety and sustainability principles to your commercial work.
- Build good working relationships with the project team, clients and the supply chain, and contribute to meetings.
- Work to the industry code of ethics and complete your apprenticeship coursework.
