Full Job Description
You must be available to attend a training day in Wissington, Norfolk, during the first week of September 2025, and you must be available for the full campaign duration. The National Farmers' Union (NFU) is the biggest farming organisation in the UK. We're proud to make a difference for all our members, by shaping attitudes towards British farming and leading the charge on a range of major issues, from climate change and food standards to rural crime and broadband rollout. Purpose of the role & how you will contribute: This critical role involves monitoring the intake and sampling activities of British Sugar on behalf of NFU and the UK sugar beet growers to ensure compliance with agreed Beet Intake and Sampling procedures. As part of the NFU Sugar beet intake team you will be responsible for ensuring that all agreed checks and procedures are correctly followed by British Sugar, reporting any non-conformances. This will require you to be active and observant throughout the day ensuring standards are maintained. You will also be the first point of contact for the beet growers dealing with their enquiries and complaints as they arise, together with some basic documentation and recording of activities. You will also seek continuous improvement opportunities to enhance performance and operations.
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Ability to follow rules and procedures and to be comfortable challenging non-conformances when they arise
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage effectively with people across all levels with tact and discretion
- Computer literate and able to input data accurately.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel
- Organised and methodical with attention to detail
- Punctuality and reliability
- Ability to work unsupervised using your own initiative
- Previous experience of quality control would be beneficial but full training will be provided
- Full current driving license and access to your own vehicle
- Willingness to work unsociable hours, to include weekends and bank holidays
Every day, we're the voice of around 44,000 British farmers and growers who produce food, making sure their concerns are heard at the heart of government both online and locally. This means developing strong relationships with everyone from NFU colleagues to government ministers. So, as well as having a high profile in both the media and Westminster, we work with and support local members through a network of regional and county offices across England and Wales.
You will be based at the British Sugar Factory, Cantley and will work alongside British Sugar staff as they operate the beet intake for the seasonal campaign. You may from time to time be required to cover shifts at other sites, for which you will be paid mileage and hours on site at time and a quarter. Why choose us? Join us and you'll find an organisation that encourages and enables you to achieve your full potential. In return you will be rewarded with a full range of benefits including: - Competitive shift pay
- Company funded health Cashplan
- Competitive Pension and Life assurance
- 5.6 weeks' annual leave per year (pro-rata)
- 1 additional NFU day paid at the end of the campaign, contingent on attendance and completion of the full campaign
- Employee Assistance program to help you deal with life's challenges
- Death in service life assurance
- Full training and PPE are provided
