Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a full time Public Transport Technician to join the Sustainable Travel Team. This role will support the delivery of improvements to public transport in the county. Leicestershire has a good commercial bus network, complemented by local bus services tendered by the Sustainable Travel Team including FoxConnect and taxi-based demand responsive transport services. Additional government funding will further support improvements to public transport information and infrastructure. About the Role A key part of this role is to carry out a range of administrative tasks along with maintaining and monitoring bus stop infrastructure and public transport information provision. This role requires working independently in a lone working environment. Many of the tasks involve outdoor working and in all weather conditions. The successful post holder will be provided with a vehicle to undertake the duties of this post and will be required to conduct daily checks and inspections to ensure it is kept in a roadworthy condition. The postholder will need to comply with all Health and Safety legislation, safe systems of work, risk assessments, traffic management requirements to ensure personal safety and that of the general public and colleagues. Main Duties

  • Install and display roadside public transport information - install new flags, cases and town boards to poles and lamp columns and insert displays as relevant and replace/repair existing facilities such as Perspex front sheets and information displays.
  • To audit and inspect bus stops facilities including bus stop flags, shelters, hard standing and timetable cases.
  • Input and update information gathered into databases and spreadsheets.
  • Assist with the collection, manipulation and analysis of bus service data as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and production of roadside publicity materials such as notices, timetables and waysides.

  • Qualifications - Have NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) or English and Maths GCSE at Grade A-C or equivalent OR have demonstrable work experience in a public facing environment
  • Hold a valid full driving licence (Applicants with more than 5 penalty points will not be considered)
  • Have experience of using Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalent packages sufficient to input and organise data. Good numerical and attention to detail ability.
  • Have experience of using manual and power tools e.g. drills, metal banding equipment to secure bus stop flags. Need to be physically able to meet mobility-related duties e.g. fixing timetable cases and flags to poles; lifting equipment such as display cases.
  • Have good awareness of Health & Safety issues and processes relevant to highway working. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and use other safety equipment.
  • To be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and a demonstrable ability to use own initiative. Ability to plan and prioritise own workload.
  • Have good geographical knowledge of the County. Ability to work flexibly, which may involve out of hours working.
