Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Public Health Manager to be the lead for Tobacco Control, Stop Smoking (including the in-house Specialist Stop Smoking Service), Vaping, and NHS Health Checks, and to provide leadership and support to the Deputy Director of Public Health in Health Protection and Healthcare Public Health, including Long Term Conditions, Cancer, and Neighbourhood Health. Public Health is part of the wider Communities and Public Health directorate. The team is led by two Deputy Directors of Public Health reporting to the Executive Director of Communities and Public Health who is the statutory Director of Public Health. The public health team provides leadership and works alongside communities and partners to maximise the health and wellbeing of residents, building on community strengths, improving health, and reducing inequalities. More broadly the post-holder will support the Director of Public Health in delivering the corporate vision for Northumberland as set out in the Northumberland County Council Corporate Plan and the Northumberland Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy. You will contribute to the development and implementation of health improvement, health protection, and healthcare public health programmes, policies and strategy. You will be based at County Hall in Morpeth and flexible working, including working from home for part of the week, is possible.

  • Masters degree in Public Health or equivalent and substantial postgraduate experience in public health practice.
  • Advanced knowledge of public health theory and practice, including epidemiology, health inequalities, health improvement, health protection, health economics, and healthcare public health.
  • Advanced knowledge of issues and expertise relating to your portfolio areas.
  • Ability to travel within the North East region and occasionally nationally.
