Full Job Description

We are seeking an intellectually curious Psychology Teacher to join a high-achieving Social Sciences department in Nottingham. In a city renowned for its two world-class universities and a strong tradition of scientific research, this school provides an exceptional platform for a specialist who can navigate the complexities of the human experience-from the biological foundations of memory to the social dynamics of obedience. Core Responsibilities A-Level Mastery: Delivering expert, high-impact lessons across the AQA or Edexcel Psychology specifications, with a primary focus on Key Stage 5 learners. Scientific Rigor: Teaching the core pillars of the subject, including Social Influence, Attachment, Psychopathology, and Biopsychology, with a strong emphasis on research methods. Evaluative Writing: Developing students' ability to construct sophisticated, "PEEL"-structured essays that balance theoretical knowledge with empirical evidence and methodological critique. Maths in Science: Guiding students through the quantitative requirements of the course, including descriptive statistics, inferential testing, and data interpretation. Psychological Inquiry: Encouraging students to apply psychological theories to contemporary issues, such as mental health awareness, forensic profiling, and the impact of social media. Why This School? Nottingham's Academic Hub: Benefit from a city with deep links to higher education, providing excellent opportunities for university taster days and guest lectures. Dedicated Sixth Form Environment: Teach in specialized seminar-style classrooms designed to bridge the gap between school and undergraduate study. Research-Informed Faculty: Join a team of specialists who utilize "Retrieval Practice" and "Dual Coding" to maximize student retention and reduce exam anxiety. Professional Trajectory: Access to specialized CPD on marking and moderation, with clear pathways to Head of Social Sciences or EPQ Coordinator roles.

Qualification: QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a relevant degree in Psychology or a closely related Social Science. Subject Knowledge: A deep understanding of the current A-Level specification and a passion for staying updated on modern psychological research. Pedagogy: A proven track record of securing high "Value Added" scores and helping students achieve top grades (A

  • -B) at Key Stage 5.
  • Character: A reflective practitioner who can facilitate healthy classroom debate while maintaining scientific objectivity and sensitivity.
