The Perinatal Service is committed to supporting Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through regular training opportunities, contributions from external speakers, shared learning events, and multidisciplinary case discussions. This creates a supportive environment in which staff can continuously enhance their knowledge and clinical practice. Team members are also encouraged to contribute to the delivery of maternal mental health awareness training for Midwives, Health Visitors, and Mental Health colleagues, helping to improve understanding and support for women and families across the wider healthcare system.

Our work is rewarding but can also be complex and challenging. As such, the ability to undertake effective risk assessment and management is essential, alongside a sound understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures. A key aspect of the role is maintaining a focus on the wellbeing and safety of unborn babies and other children within the family at all times.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high standards of care, working in accordance with evidence-based practice, professional standards, and Trust policies. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, women and their families, carers, partner organisations, and other agencies to promote positive mental health outcomes and enhance the wellbeing of women and their families throughout the perinatal journey.

For this post, we welcome applicants from both newly qualified and more experienced candidates, and the salary will be dependent on experience. This will be in line with Band 7 or Band 8a as per Agenda for Change pay scales. We also welcome applications from staff who are currently coming to the end of their training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology that will, upon successful completion, achieve the required qualification and registration with HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist.

Trainee counselling psychologists are eligible to apply for, be shortlisted for, and be offered qualified posts when they are in their 3rd year of doctoral training and have the following confirmed by the university, which may be requested prior to interview:

• a. All clinical competencies


• b. 80% of the 450 supervised clinical practice hours (360 hours)

Trainee clinical psychologists are eligible to apply for, be shortlisted for, and be offered qualified posts when they are in their third year of training, as they will have completed their core clinical competencies by this stage of the course.
