Full Job Description

This post presents a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a motivated lawyer to bring their ability and passion to the Legal Services Team.

You will handle a varied caseload of property related matters and respond in a timely manner to client instructions to deal with the Council's commercial and residential estate. You will also support other team members as appropriate. We will give you the opportunity to apply and develop your skills in the context of a high-profile authority. We are particularly dedicated to the professional development of our legal team and career progression.

About the team:

You will be joining Exeter City Council's Legal Services team, working within a collaborative and supportive Property Planning and Non-contentious team supervised by the Team Lead Property Planning and Non-contentious in delivering legal services to the Council.

Working within the Corporate Resources directorate, you will be part of a service that values professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to contribute to service development, help shape best practice, and play a key role in resolving some of the most significant legal issues facing the Council and the communities it serves.

You will be a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with a proven track record of dealing with Property matters.

You will be an experienced and confident legal professional with previous experience in dealing with all aspects of commercial conveyancing, together with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your own caseload. Ideally you will have experience in working in local government and a knowledge of contract or planning law would be advantageous, although this is not essential.

At Exeter City Council we are fully committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve.

To support this commitment we will strive to implement reasonable adjustments to support any members of our communities who face barriers in recruitment processes, irrespective of the reason.

Flexible working arrangements - we offer flexible hours and hybrid working subject to service requirements.

A generous annual leave entitlement of 24 days, (pro-rata), rising on 5 and 10 years' service, plus public holidays.

Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) - considered to be one of the best employer contribution rates.

A Cycle to Work scheme.

Continuing professional development opportunities.

AN Employee Assistance Programme which helps supports employees with workplace changes and challenges as well as other work, family and personal issues.
