Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join Middlesbrough Virtual School as a Project Manager. Middlesbrough Virtual School champions the education of children looked after and provides strategic leadership to improve educational outcomes for children with a social worker. We work with schools, social care and other partners to make education a protective factor in children's lives, improving attendance, inclusion, attainment and progression. This is a varied and influential role supporting the Virtual School Head and wider team to coordinate improvement projects, manage key information and help ensure that agreed actions deliver positive outcomes for children and young people. The role: -

  • Lead and support a range of improvement projects, including the PROCLAIM Project.
  • Maintain accurate project plans, trackers, risk and issue logs, action plans and performance information.
  • Coordinate meetings and multi-agency activity, monitor progress against milestones and escalate emerging risks or delays.
  • Use data to identify children and young people at increased risk of poor educational outcomes, including persistent absence, suspensions or exclusions, part-time timetables, off-roll risk and concerns about attainment or progress.
  • Analyse information, identify themes and exceptions, and translate findings into clear recommendations for senior leaders and partner services.
  • Support the effective coordination of the Virtual School's core information and processes, helping to ensure that records, welfare information, project documentation and audit actions are accurate, current and followed through.
  • Build positive relationships across education, social care and the Council so that partners share a clear understanding of priorities, responsibilities and deadlines.

Experience of supporting projects through to successful completion.
  • The ability to structure, plan and deliver projects effectively.
  • Experience of maintaining project plans, action logs, risk registers and milestone trackers.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex information and datasets.
  • The ability to manage several workstreams and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to work with a range of professional partners.
  • The ability to produce concise reports, summaries and briefings.
  • A high level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
  • You should be able to work collaboratively as part of a busy team while also using your initiative and working independently. You will be confident in constructively challenging delays, maintaining momentum and ensuring that agreed actions are completed. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about improving the educational experiences and life chances of vulnerable children and young people. If you are organised, analytical and solutions-focused, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment, this may be the opportunity you are looking for!
