Full Job Description
The role is to design, manufacture, assemble and test laboratory scale tidal turbines and platform concepts. You will work on the EPSRC-funded programme CoTide that is developing whole system engineering models and innovative designs for tidal energy systems. The CoTide project team brings together world-leading centres at the Universities of Oxford, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Sheffield. CoTide's team of around 40 researchers and academics are developing holistic integrated models covering all aspects of tidal stream turbine design that will help to reduce costs and support innovation to accelerate technology development and deployment for the tidal stream industry.
Working as part of a wider research and design team, including hydrodynamicists and computational modellers, the role is in the design of the whole turbine and platform system. The post holder will lead in the design and specification of electrical and mechanical systems. The role will include CAD, FEA and the identification and application of applicable certification standards in design.
You should possess a relevant undergraduate or higher level degree in Engineering or a related discipline, have a strong background and relevant experience in CAD, FEA, and the use of certification standards in design, and have excellent communication skills.
