Full Job Description

At NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) we are a unique organisation that works with patients and donors alike to save and improve lives every day. We are on a mission to ensure that every patient receives the donation they need and we are seeking an experienced senior project/programme manager to lead the delivery of complex high-value digital projects that align with NHSBTs strategic objectives. Join our dedicated team and contribute to the strategic planning, design and delivery of digital initiatives that will have a profound impact on improving donation services. Collaborating closely with the donation programme director, service owner, programme board and both internal/external delivery partners, you will lead the full project lifecycle including benefits definition, planning and business case writing, in addition to managing the software development lifecycle and execution., Your main duties will include:

  • Lead the scoping, definition and planning of complex programmes and projects, translating strategic objectives into deliverable plans aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Be accountable for the full programme/project lifecycle, applying NHSBT standards and P3M methodology to ensure delivery on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
  • Manage financial, human and technical resources effectively to achieve programme outcomes and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee day-to-day programme delivery, including planning, budgeting, decision-making, risk and dependency management, business readiness, lessons learned, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide structure, direction and visibility of progress, supporting delivery in complex and uncertain environments.
  • Drive benefits identification, tracking and realisation, ensuring measurable value and positive impact for NHSBT, donors and patients.
  • Lead and support multi-disciplinary teams within a matrix structure, promoting collaboration, capability development, innovation and high performance, including line management where required.
  • Oversee delivery of complex projects and programmes, managing challenges and ensuring achievement of key milestones, budgets and quality standards.

    We are looking for someone with a proven track record of managing large-scale digital projects, preferably in healthcare. You will have an innovative, problem-solving approach, with strong stakeholder management skills and experience implementing risk management and governance processes.
