Full Job Description

Prof. of Economics in Population Health, and Director of the Economics of Population Health research centre (EPH)
Oxford Population Health (Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford), Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7LF
The Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH) undertakes world-leading research into the causes, prevention and treatment of major chronic diseases, with the aim of improving health and reducing avoidable suffering globally. Within NDPH, the Economics of Population Health Research Centre (EPH) is a thriving, internationally recognised group of health economists delivering innovative methodological and applied research across a wide range of policy-relevant areas.
We are seeking an outstanding and internationally recognised academic to provide strategic leadership in the economics of population health. This is a senior appointment offering the opportunity to shape a major research programme and further strengthen Oxford's position as a global leader in health economics.
The successful candidate will lead collaborations with economists, clinicians, trialists and policymakers in the UK and internationally, and will play a key role in advancing interdisciplinary research across the University. They will develop and deliver a high-impact research agenda aligned with NDPH's strategic mission to improve physical, cognitive and social health across the life course.
The role offers access to exceptional data resources, including large-scale cohort studies such as UK Biobank and the Million Women Study, alongside major clinical trial infrastructure within NDPH, providing unique opportunities for high-impact research.
As Professor of Economics in Population Health, and Director of the Economics of Population Health research centre (EPH), you will provide academic leadership for EPH, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing research environment. You will lead the development of pioneering methodologies, secure significant external research funding, and ensure that research findings translate into meaningful policy impact. You will also contribute to teaching, supervision, and the broader academic life of the department.
The successful candidate will be an established leader in health economics or a closely related field, with an excellent track record of high-quality publications, sustained research funding, and leadership of large collaborative programmes. You will bring significant experience in team leadership and development, a strong commitment to mentoring and education, and the ability to work effectively across disciplines and with external partners.
